Terms of use
What swiftmore does
swiftmore helps you prepare figures for your UK tax affairs. It asks questions, sorts records you give it, and shows its working. It does not give tax advice, and nothing is sent to HMRC without your explicit action.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter and for reviewing every figure before you rely on it. Suggestions, including automatic categorisation, are suggestions.
Accounts and payment
Accounts are free to create and use until you choose a paid plan. Paid plans are billed as described on the pricing page. You can cancel a subscription at any time; access continues to the end of the paid period.
Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel a paid plan within 14 days of paying and we will refund it in full, unless your return has been sent to HMRC in that time. When you pay, you ask us to start the service straight away and the paid features open at once. Once a return has been sent to HMRC, the service has been performed in full and the right to cancel ends, so no refund is due for that tax year. You confirm this before each payment.
After the 14 days, Complete can be cancelled at any time from the billing page and runs to the end of the period you have paid for; nothing further is charged. Single return is a one-off purchase for one tax year and does not renew. To cancel within the 14 days, email support from the address on your account; a refund goes back to the card you paid with, normally within 5 to 10 working days.
Practices
An accountancy or bookkeeping practice may use swiftmore on behalf of its clients under a separate Practice Licence Agreement, which an owner of the practice accepts in the app before the practice can buy its licence or send a client's return. The agreement, with its Data Processing Addendum, is published at swiftmore.co.uk/practice-licence and swiftmore.co.uk/data-processing, and it prevails over these terms for the practice. If a practice uses swiftmore for you, your records are held in the practice's account: the practice is responsible to you for the work and is the data controller for your records, and we process them on its instructions. Questions about your file go to the practice first.
Your data
Your records belong to you. We keep them to provide the service and remove them 30 days after you close your account. How long a tax-year file is kept depends on whether your account is paying: while you keep buying a Single return for the current tax year or hold a subscription, every file is kept for 7 years after that tax year's 31 January filing deadline (longer than the five years HMRC asks you to keep records for) and removed on the following 1 March. If your account is not paying for a return or a subscription, each file is kept for a year's grace — a year after its filing deadline, or a year after the deadline of your last paid tax year if later — and then removed the month after. Buying a return for a later tax year, or subscribing, puts every file back on the 7-year rule. Either way the account owner is emailed six months, a month and a week beforehand, and once more when the file has gone, and you can download everything at any time from Account → Your data. A tax-year file holds up to 1,000 receipts. See the privacy notice for details.
This is a working draft of the terms and will be replaced by the reviewed version before public launch.
